The Westlake home participated in a 2-day workshop at Zeitz MOCAA inspired by the exhibition ONE MUST BE SEATED by Rita Mawuena which Is currently being exhibited on Level 3 of the museum.

Zeitz MOCAA Centre for Art Education hosted an exciting week of children’s workshop activities over the 2025 Autumn school holidays. They designed the holiday programme as an open studio space with different activities at different tables. This year each activity table was devoted to making the different parts of an umbrella Inspired by the Ghanaian Umbrellas used in royal processions.

The activities offered were at different levels of complexity to accommodate different skill levels and age groups, ensuring maximum fun and engagement.

The children started with making their personal totem to attach to the handle of the umbrella. The next step was to make the umbrella frame.  Another fun part of the workshop was when the children got to decorating the umbrella using tissue paper with patterns, words and collaged shapes with the final construction being the attaching of the handle to the umbrella frame.

The last part of this exercise was the embellishment adding fringes, tassels, and handle decorations.
