The Masiphumelele and Oceanview children took in the sights, sounds and history of the SAJM and Company Gardens!
The SAJM educational team presented the children with a map of the route they were to take within the Company Gardens. They followed the paths that led them to landmarks, statues and a 300-year-old tree. The guides from SAJM informed the children of the history of the landmarks, buildings and statues scattered and surrounding the garden, as well as the 1772 individual wooden poles honouring and commemorating the black South African soldiers who served during the First World War.
Some children were scared but courageous enough to allow the resident pigeons to feed from their hands, as well as observed grey and white squirrels scurrying around the grounds, and at the ponds of water the sightings of ducks, fish, tadpoles and frogs were enjoyed.
They made their way back to the SAJM to enjoy some refreshments and with the time left over, had the opportunity to partake in some art activities, which they were given to finish at home.
Thank you to the SAJM team for yet another memorable visit!
