April 2025; News update

OAP in partnership with Home from Home has been busy for five years!

Dear Friends of Orange Art Project,

I hope you have all been well though the summer months.

OAP has been as steadily busy as ever, engaging in art and craft sessions in the homes and enjoying outings with the children, mothers and mentors.

During all these interactions, the learning that takes place informally adds hugely to assist in  education, all round.

The commitment from the mentors/artists has been consistent and appreciated by the 22 families that benefit from learning new skills while discovering new possibilities and enjoying time out.

All the news and the pictures are on our website which I encourage you to open and enjoy.  You will  “meet” the artists who are committed to their activities with the families. Plus, view the catalogue of children’s work and read about the events they have enjoyed.

Changes to the team; having assisted in upskilling the team and supporting all the activities, Lisa Truter is leaving the project but not the friends of OAP. I am most grateful for her patience, kindness, enthusiasm and diligence. We have grown well together, putting systems in place and rooting the project in preparation for growth.

Lisa will not be replaced as OAP is looking for a new coordinator to assist with keeping the project on track and possibly contracting new artists to work in more homes.

There are 35 homes in the Home from Home cluster. The OAP model works well and is ready to interact with more families and artists.

This is all funding dependent.

The greatest need is for transport and data. OAP does not have a home base. The project started during covid and we have kept our communication going via email and WhatsApp. Materials are always welcome and support for the stipends that the artists and team receive is necessary for the weekly sessions, administration and coordination.

I am grateful to the individuals who continue to support the project and for the corporate and government funding that we receive. With our team and your assistance we can  grow our finances to support our potential.

Please write to Morag, (williamsmorag04@gmail.com) if you would like info about the new position.

Please write to Letitia, (letitia@orangeart.org.za) if you would like to donate to the project.

The next event, May 2025 is for the moms. They are now known as the Orange moms!

Twenty three moms will be joining three working sessions at  Zeitz MOCAA BMW Center for Education to grow their skills so that they can share art and craft making with their families and neighbours, with confidence.

Best wishes to you all,
from Jill Trappler.

(jill@jilltrappler.co.za) if you have any questions.

PS I will write soon to introduce the new person that we appoint.
